South African media personality, podcaster and singer Nandi Madida has been named one of the Global Creative Councillors at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

The star shared the exciting news with her followers on Instagram, where she reflected on the work that has shaped her passion for helping mothers across the continent.

In her caption, she explained that supporting mothers has always been at the heart of what she does.

“This continent’s mothers have always been my why. Long before any title, showing up for mothers has been my purpose. Through The Motherhood Network and in every space I have been given access to, I have tried to tell their stories, hold their experiences with care, and advocate for the women who carry so much, so quietly.”

Madida said being appointed as a Global Creative Councillor is a meaningful moment in her journey of advocacy.

“Being named a Global Creative Councillor at the Gates Foundation feels like the work being seen. And I do not take that lightly.”

She also revealed that she recently spent time working with an international team in South Africa on initiatives focused on mothers and children.

“Last week I spent time in South Africa with an incredible international team, inside spaces doing real, urgent work for mothers and children. It moved me in ways I am still processing.”

Despite the global recognition, Madida said her commitment remains the same.

“I will keep showing up. That has never changed. This just means I get to do it in bigger rooms.”

She also used the moment to highlight the latest episode of her platform, The Motherhood Network.

“And while we are here, our latest episode of The Motherhood Network is now live on YouTube. I sat down with Dr Kopano and Dr Lawrence for an honest and necessary conversation about malnutrition in babies. Every mother needs to hear this one.”

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is a philanthropic organisation that works to dramatically reduce disease and poverty while helping build a more equal world.

Following the announcement, Madida received many congratulatory messages from fellow public figures.

TV presenter Kayise Ngqula commented, “Great work mama. Rahima Moosa is very close to my heart cause that’s where we got our Autism diagnosis. So much more to tell but the journey continues.”

Philanthropist and public speaker Rachel Kolisi also shared a message of support, writing, “Congratulations my friend, you’re a force.”

Musician and DJ Lady Du added a playful message, saying, “When are you becoming the first female president because wow. I love you.”
