Nadia Nakai, a leading figure in South African hip hop, has revealed the much-anticipated release date for her upcoming album, Braggacy. Set to debut on Friday, February 28, 2025, the album is not just a collection of songs but a touching tribute to her late boyfriend, renowned rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes.
The title, Braggacy, cleverly honours AKA’s devoted fan base, known as the Megacy, while also reflecting Nakai’s emotional journey of love and remembrance. She shared the news on Instagram, saying, “Feelings can’t change facts. But facts can change feelings. BRAGGACY ALBUM OUT 28.02.25.”
In an emotional Instagram post in 2023, Nakai described Braggacy as “a letter to him.” She expressed her gratitude for being able to channel her feelings through music, acknowledging the project as a way to heal from the pain of losing AKA. “My tribute EP that has now become a tribute album! Because I have so much to say, it is almost done,” Nakai wrote. “This is honestly not for you, it’s for me, on my road to healing (whatever that looks like).”
The deeply personal nature of the album reflects Nakai’s healing process, as she shared the emotional journey of creating music that has helped her cope with the loss. The album is set to be a cathartic experience, not only for her but also for fans who have followed her relationship with AKA.
In related news, AKA’s mother, Lynn Forbes, also took to Instagram to honour her son. Reflecting on the challenges of life, she wrote, “There are mountains we prepare for, and mountains that find us. Both change us forever. Does this resonate with you?”
Kiernan “AKA” Forbes tragically passed away on February 10, 2023, when he was gunned down in Durban. His death left a huge impact on the South African music community and his fans worldwide.
Two years later, his legacy continues to resonate. Cruz Vodka recently posted a tribute on X, saying, “Two years on, and your impact on South African hip-hop and culture is undeniable. An icon, a pioneer, a legend. Your legacy continues to inspire generations to push boundaries. Rest easy, SUPA MEGA.”
As the anniversary of AKA’s passing approaches, Nakai’s album Braggacy promises to be a powerful and emotional tribute to the late rapper.
