Reality TV star Mpumi “Mrs Mops” Mophatlane is showing Mzansi that hard work really pays off — both in the gym and in maintaining her BBL (Brazilian Butt Lift) results. Known for her glamorous life and confidence on The Mommy Club, Mpumi is now also a fitness queen after completing one of the world’s most intense fitness competitions — Hyrox.
The global fitness challenge made its South African debut in March 2025 in Johannesburg, and again in July in Cape Town. Hyrox includes running and a series of strength exercises like rowing, skiing, ball throws, lunges, burpees, and more. It’s not for the faint-hearted — but Mpumi did it!
Speaking to TRUELOVE, she said, “I never say no to a challenge.” Even though she had doubts at first, Mpumi trained for three months and pushed herself through every workout. “It was a tough journey because I am not as fit. I’ve never thought of myself as a hybrid athlete,” she admitted.
When her friend and personal trainer first mentioned Hyrox, she had no idea what it was. “And I’m like, ‘Okay, so first of all, what is Hyrox? Number one. And what do they require?’ And then when she sent me the pictures and the videos, I was like, there’s no way.”
But with a strict training routine, Mpumi made it through. “We trained twice a week with the Hyrox trainer. We also ran on Sundays, Mondays and Wednesdays. Burpees humbled me, I almost fainted!” she joked.
Her biggest motivation? Her family. “What kept me going was my children and my family. I had told everybody I was doing Hyrox. So, I couldn’t back down.”
As someone who has had a BBL, Mpumi knows that keeping her body in shape takes more than just surgery. “It’s so important that if you do decide to get a BBL like I did, you have to go to the gym and maintain it,” she said. She added that eating healthy is key: “You can cheat here and there, but you have to watch what you eat.”
Mpumi also stressed the importance of aftercare. “After you get your BBL and your lipo, you need lymphatic drainage massage. You need to compress and wear your garment. After a few months, your body gets better and better.”
Now that she’s stronger and fitter, Mpumi is ready to do it all over again. “When another one comes in Johannesburg, I will definitely enter that one,” she said.
