Reality TV star Matsheliso Maphutse has opened up about her relationship with Lesiba Tleane following their time together on Married At First Sight Mzansi Season 3.
Matsheliso, who is also often spelled Matshidiso, was one of the brides featured on the third season of the popular reality TV show. She was matched with Lesiba Tleane, with the pair quickly becoming one of the couples known for their playful and humorous dynamic throughout the experiment.
However, despite some lighthearted moments between the pair, Matsheliso ultimately decided to walk away from the relationship and “choose herself”. Her decision also led to emotional conversations during the recent season wrap-up, where she reflected on how she experienced the relationship.
In a recent interview on Unscripted Network Podcast, Matsheliso opened up about how she felt during her marriage to Lesiba and revealed that she never felt genuinely wanted by him.
“I never felt wanted in this relationship. I never did. To be honest with you I never felt like this man wants me and there’s parts where they edited it out, but there’s parts where I’m like I just feel like this man does not want me. This man does not like me like that.”
Matsheliso explained that she sometimes felt Lesiba was only continuing with the relationship because they had been paired together as part of the experiment.
“He’s with me because at the end of the day we got paired together and we need to finish the experiment.”
She also opened up about feeling like she was constantly chasing Lesiba and questioned why she was always the one making an effort to maintain their connection.
“Why am I chasing you? I don’t expect you to chase me either”
According to Matsheliso, she would regularly make an effort to communicate with Lesiba throughout the day, but felt that the same energy was not being returned.
“I’ll send you a morning text, I’ll call you during the day, before I sleep. Why must I always be the one that is doing all of that? I feel like it needs to be reciprocated.”
Looking back on the relationship, Matsheliso said she eventually accepted that she did not feel wanted by Lesiba and that it was okay because she believed she simply was not his type.
“That’s why I’m saying I never felt wanted by him and it’s okay because clearly I wasn’t his type.”
