Former Married at First Sight Mzansi star Litsoanelo Seturumane, popularly known as Dee, recently shared her side of the story about her short-lived marriage to Khutso Mokoena. Dee became a fan favourite on the show’s first season for her bubbly personality and honesty, but her marriage didn’t last beyond the experiment.

In an interview on the Engineer Your Life podcast hosted by Lungelo KM, Dee spoke openly about the issues that led to their breakup. One major point of contention was money. She claimed Khutso contributed only R2 000 towards their household expenses, despite earning income from an Airbnb property.

“You’re living in my house, and all you’re giving is R2 000? That’s not a partnership,” Dee said, expressing her disappointment.

At first, things looked promising. Dee and Khutso’s chemistry was undeniable during their honeymoon, giving fans hope for a happy ending. But reality soon hit when they moved in together and had to manage everyday life.

Dee explained that being a full-time student made things harder for her financially: “I’m a student, I think everybody knows that. I’m a full-time student, like I had lectures this morning. Which means I do not have [job income per se]. So maybe because you think I am one of the Oppenheimers based on what you’re seeing, yeah, that is OK to do that,” she said.

Blending their families also created challenges. Dee has a son, Zion, while Khutso has a daughter, Omphile. According to Dee, it was clear early on that they came from very different backgrounds.

“It was apparent from day two or day three that we were from different backgrounds, so we had to talk extensively just to find a middle ground,” she explained.

Apart from finances, co-parenting issues and trust problems added more strain. Khutso wasn’t happy about Dee’s contact with her ex, even though it was only for their son.

“He felt I was too close to my ex, but it was about my son,” Dee said.

Dee admitted she wasn’t perfect either: “I can be a bully when I’m done with a relationship,” she confessed.

Mental health struggles during filming made things even more complicated. Ultimately, their differences were too big to overcome.

“We tried, but the differences in how we approached money and family were too big to overcome,” she reflected.

Despite the heartbreak, Dee says the experience taught her valuable lessons. “This experience taught me about my boundaries and how to communicate better,” she said.

Khutso has since moved on and even entered the Mr South Africa pageant, while Dee is focusing on motherhood and her career.

The conversation sparked heated debates on social media. Some users defended Dee, while others criticized her expectations:

@Miss_Dee_Zee: “Good interview!! Just didn’t like that she painted the guy as a villain. In her mind I think she had a picture of what kind of person she wanted and also felt that Khutso was beneath her. Anyway, it was oil and water from the start.”

@ZaKes89: “Kanti they know it’s abuse when it’s the other way around. If she was contribuying 2k and he was a student at his house it wouldn’t be seen as abuse lol. Basadi.”

@DineoBackUp: “Why would a student with no source of income commit to a marriage with a guy you hardly know and expect rapport and a balanced financial and emotional functional home?”

@missjolis: “Why are you allowing a man to move into your house? What level of desperation is that? And vele he will victimize you financially if you allow it iNcese, but you shouldn’t have thought you’re the exception. He already had a history of using women and financial abuse is his MO!”
