DJ and radio personality Lamiez Holworthy is over the moon after winning DJ of the Year at the prestigious Basadi in Music Awards. The star, who also hosted the awards ceremony, took to social media to express her gratitude and excitement about this incredible milestone in her career.
Sharing her heartfelt message, Lamiez wrote: “God really did a thing this past weekend… Traded the mic for a trophy and I am still in disbelief. Not only was this the first time I hosted an awards ceremony of that magnitude by myself but my people, my tribe really showed up and voted me Best Female DJ at this year’s @basadiinmusicawards_sa.”
The award-winning DJ reflected on the hard work and sacrifices DJs make to deliver for their fans. “But truth is, each and every one of us deserved it and here’s why – we all give so much of ourselves at every single gig. We sacrifice time with our loved ones so that we’re able to show up. We put our lives at risk by driving to and from gigs at ungodly hours and honestly? Being able to do so is a blessing none of us should take for granted. Being able to feed our families and live our dreams because of it? Everything!!!”
Lamiez also took a moment to appreciate DJ Thobs, who supported her when she was just starting out. “To DJ Thobs from Voslo @inthobsicator thank you so much for treating the 17-year-old little girl ka Lerato at a time where someone asked you to cut your set short and give me 15 minutes to play. You had no reason to but you did and continued to treat me ka Lerato at a time where YOU DOMINATED a predominantly male industry from go shapa number ka vinyl to being one of the first women to release compilations with @glenzito. Thank you for paving the way for so many of us.”
She also praised the brilliance of South African women: “I’ll tell you this – South Africa has the most beautiful women ever. Outside of bo pila ba bona, it is in their brains, in their talent and in their hearts. I am blessed to experience and get inspired from them all every single day of my life.”
Lamiez ended her message by thanking fans for their support. “Thank you to each and everyone of you who not only voted for me but continue to show me love – be it on social media, at gigs, in boardrooms or in public. I see it, feel it and I appreciate it! Thank you!!!”
She added a teaser about something exciting coming soon: “Ps. My last look was a hint for a big announcement – can you guess what it is?!”
