Earlier this week Trevor Noah was announced the successor to Jon Stewart on an American late night news parody show “The Daily Show” . It seems that many were not very pleased with the decision whilst most South Africans were applauding Noah for representing our nation on such a large scale.
The Twitter backlash came after a few people decided to pull up some of Trevor Noah’s old Tweets where he apparently slandered women and Jews. The old Tweets upset a number of people and they were questioning Comedy Central on their decision.
It’s reported that Comedy Central has taken the Tweets into consideration and have decided to review their decision of having Trevor Noah has the new face of The Daily Show.
Even after Trevor’s Tweet of defending himself the producers of the show are not having it.
Another South African comedian that’s experiencing international exposure right now is Loyiso Gola. Loyiso is currently touring New York City and has booked a couple of shows there. Comedy Central would like to stay true to their word of having something new and fresh on their show and as a result of the Twitter backlash they have appointed Gola as the new host of the show.
Trevor has not said anything about his fellow comedian taking his spot before he even hosts his first show. We guess congratulations are due to Loyiso Gola. Go out there and make us proud!
Uhmmm…does this mean that Trevor is coming home now?…
