Lesego Tlhabi Shares How She Got Fat Shamed By A Major Local Designer. Body shaming is one of the major disadvantages of being a celebrity, because people genuinely think it’s okay to to comment on someones body, especially when their plus size.
Many plus sized celebs have spoken up about bullies who throw insensitive judgments on social media and publicly regarding their weight and looks, and it’s not okay.
Larger than life celebrity Lesego Thlabi took to twitter to share her experience of fat shaming from a local designer, of which she chose to keep private because of work obligations.
In a series of tweets, the Trending SA host shared that a famous designer who was previously briefed about her dress size, decided to cause a scene about her size in the store for everyone to hear.
Not only did they humiliate her but the designer also used an insensitive slur to refer to her when the dress didn’t fit, of which hurt her very deeply
“So today I went to a famous designer who was told my sizes way beforehand because it’s for TV. Does he not then declare very loudly in the store after a failed try-on that he has nothing for me & then uses words like “fatty boom boom” to describe how I’d look in the designs. Yoh” she wrote.
She further mentioned that Fat phobia is twice as hurtful as any other shaming, and making someone feel like their not worthy is the most cruel thing that anyone could ever do to another human being.
“To the convo this week, this is why fatphobia is so different than other shaming. I was made to feel like less than nothing today because of my body. My body is not good enough for his dresses & he let that shit be known. He really could’ve said that to the stylist ON THE PHONE” she wrote.
In a follow up tweet, Lesego shared how gutted she is by the designers insensitivity but like the queen she is, she chose to have thick skin however, this is a lesson for all those who fat shame other s without batting an eye.
“Heyi I’m hurt af. And of course I have to shake it off because it’s for work. Your day really can get ruined on account of you being a big girl in a way that no one else will understand. THE INDUSTRY LITERALLY DOESN’T WANT US. It’s wild” she wrote
