South African content creator and media personality Lasizwe Dambuza is breaking new ground once again. According to TshisaLIVE, the 27-year-old influencer has officially released his first cinematic YouTube series titled Nomatriquency: The Funeral, marking a huge milestone in his creative journey. This project shows how far Lasizwe has come — transforming his YouTube channel from funny skits into a full production with professional filming and storytelling.

Speaking about his latest project, Lasizwe said, “It’s growth. We’re not shooting on cellphones. YouTube can be taken seriously, and it should be taken seriously as another medium to consume content — to set a new level in storytelling.” His vision is to prove that online platforms like YouTube deserve the same respect and attention as mainstream film and television.

The inspiration behind the story is deeply personal. Lasizwe revealed that the series was inspired by his real-life experiences after a tough breakup. “The story was inspired by my ex. I went through a horrible breakup, so this story is me grieving my ex so I can bury him and continue with my life so I can fall in love again. I’m using my life experiences to be creative and not let them consume me,” he shared.

Lasizwe also explained why he chose YouTube instead of the traditional film industry for his new project. “In the YouTube world, we film quickly, whereas in the film industry, artists often spend 12 hours repeating the same scene. I understand this, as achieving the perfect shot is essential. Merging these two worlds was challenging,” he said.

He added that YouTube gives creators more freedom to improvise and express themselves, unlike the rigid structure of traditional film sets. “Actors sometimes feel influencers are encroaching on their territory, so I chose to use YouTube to support influencers who want to become actors, creating our own dedicated space,” he explained.

Lasizwe said his journey reflects his evolution as a creator. “We started shooting on cellphones, and now we’re shooting on cinematic cameras,” he proudly said.

Through Nomatriquency: The Funeral, Lasizwe is not only telling a heartfelt story but also redefining what it means to be a YouTube creator in South Africa.
