Metro FM radio presenter and DJ Lamiez Holworthy is celebrating a major career milestone after being named the cover star of BONA Magazine’s Legacy and Breast Cancer Awareness Issue, just weeks after enduring one of the most frightening and painful periods of her life.
The media personality recently revealed that she was rushed to hospital after experiencing unbearable pain caused by an ovarian cyst. She underwent an ovarian cystectomy and was diagnosed with endometriosis. While the experience was undoubtedly difficult, Lamiez is now focusing on healing, strength and the legacy she continues to build.
Taking to Instagram, Lamiez shared the news of her BONA Magazine cover, reflecting on the emotional journey that brought her to this moment.
She wrote, “It’s so crazy how my last post on instagram was a statement from my management announcing my hospitalisation for what was the scariest and most painful time of my life and today whilst healing, l personally get to announce that I’m the Cover star for the Legacy and Breast cancer awareness Issue which also marks 70 years of @bona_mag – a magazine established in the 1950s which has amplified and shined light on Black Excellence.
“My name is Lamiez Holworthy and not only am I warrior, l am a woman- a black woman and that is my armour. One that makes me unstoppable, untouchable and powerful.
“Not because I am perfect but because I celebrate, learn and grow from those very imperfections that make me human.”
The cover arrives at a particularly meaningful time for Lamiez, who is navigating her recovery while also celebrating a publication that has played an important role in highlighting Black excellence over several decades.
For the DJ, however, the significance of the cover goes far beyond her own career achievements. Her son’s reaction to seeing his mother featured on a magazine cover has become one of the most touching parts of the milestone.
Lamiez continued, “My son’s reaction to seeing his mama on a cover in stores has been so special to witness and that? That is why I continue to work and fight for my voice to be heard. So that someday when I am no longer here, my legacy and all that I work so hard to build is one he can be proud of.”
Her words capture the deeper meaning behind the achievement. After facing a serious health scare, Lamiez is choosing to celebrate life, motherhood, womanhood and the legacy she hopes to leave behind.
