Kid X on the Impact of AKA and Cassper Nyovest’s Beef on His Career

South African Hip Hop artist Kid X has opened up about his career, the South African hip-hop industry and his relationships with some of the biggest names in the game.

In an in-depth conversation, , Kid X reflected on his musical journey and spoke candidly about the impact that Cassper Nyovest and the late rapper AKA had on his career.

Kid X spoke about his earlier relationship with Cassper Nyovest, revealing that the two artists once shared a close connection during the early stages of their careers.

He recalled appearing in one of Cassper’s music videos and explained how their relationship eventually changed as time went on.

He said, “If you look at Casses earlier videos, I think Gusheshe, if I’m not mistaken. I’m on that video and I’m cameoing, we did have some sort of relationship at that time.”

However, the relationship between the two artists later went down, with their paths taking different directions within the South African hip-hop industry.

Kid X also reflected on the highly publicised beef between Cassper Nyovest and AKA, two of the biggest names in South African hip-hop history.

The rivalry between the two rappers became one of the most talked-about feuds in the local music industry. Kid X admitted that being associated with Cassper’s camp may have influenced some of the opportunities that came his way.

He said, “It probably did by some extension. Being in the camp it sort of paints you in the same brush as everyone in that camp. There could have been opportunities and  work that could have been extended but because you are under that umbrella, those calls didn’t happen.”

“So I would say that there could have been opportunities that were lost because of that. I don’t mean lost like an actual now regretful state. I think things played out the way they needed to, who knows what could have happened if it was different.”

Looking back at his career, Kid X admitted that his journey in music has not always been easy.

Despite the challenges, the rapper believes every experience played an important role in shaping the person and artist he is today.

“I had a very turbulent journey. I think I’ve found understanding in terms of how it had to play out that way. There was a lot of lessons that I need to learn, a lot of growing that needed to happen.”

His reflections offer a glimpse into the realities behind a career in South African hip-hop, where relationships, affiliations and industry rivalries can have a lasting impact on an artist’s journey.
