Khuli Chana, Blxckie, and 25K are taking South African music to new heights, bringing fresh sounds and powerful energy to the scene. On Friday, 21 February, the trio teamed up with KFC Streetwise for the release of their highly anticipated track, Originals Anthem.
Khuli Chana, known for his iconic motswako style that blends hip-hop, kwaito, and kasi rap, performed at KFC Braamfontein in Johannesburg, delivering a captivating set that had the crowd buzzing. He paid tribute to his legacy and the resurgence of vinyl, creating a nostalgic atmosphere. During his performance, he handed the mic to 25K, also known as Lehlohonolo Molefe, who passed it to Blxckie, Sihle Sithole. The seamless handover showcased their mutual respect and powerful energy.
Khuli Chana shared his excitement about collaborating with younger artists for the first time, saying, “This is big for me. I appreciate their respect and support.” He also emphasised the importance of inspiring the next generation, a goal close to his heart through initiatives like the Khuli Chana Foundation and Maftown Heights, which he started in 2009.
Blxckie, known for his versatility in music, reflected on the power of collaboration, saying, “Every collaboration keeps me original. We lift each other up.”
For 25K, inspired by legends like DJ Mojava and OutKast, staying true to his roots is key. He raps in S’Pitori, a mix of languages from Tshwane, and hopes to leave a lasting legacy. “I want to leave a legacy that makes it easier for another kid from Pretoria to break through,” he said.
Entertainment commentator Phil Mphela shared his thoughts on social media, praising the collaboration: “Khuli Chana teams up with KFC. Originality in SA Hip Hop and our various communities has found a champion in the original @KFCSA Streetwise. KFC has dropped a track featuring Khuli Chana, 25K, and Bixckie to celebrate how Original feeds Original.”
