Famous South African DJ and producer Kelvin Momo, whose real name is Thato Ledwaba, has apologised after he failed to show up for his highly anticipated performance at the Outside event hosted at Sun City Resort on Saturday.
The event, held on the Gary Player Golf Course, had Kelvin Momo billed as one of the headline acts alongside Mandisi Dyantyis. However, fans were left disappointed when the Amalanga hitmaker did not arrive for his set.
Taking to social media, Momo expressed regret over the incident. He wrote: “I would like to sincerely apologise to Sun City Resort, the event organisers, and most importantly, all the fans and guests for my absence and the disappointment caused by my non-attendance at the Outside Event scheduled for 16 August 2025.”
Momo explained that his absence was the result of “unforeseen circumstances and miscommunications.” He admitted that he should have handled the situation better.
“I should have responded more promptly and transparently to all parties involved,” he continued. “I am working closely with my team to ensure that something like this does not happen again in the future.”
He also promised his supporters that he would make it up to them: “I am truly grateful for your support and understanding, and I hope to make it up to you at a future event. Thank you once again to everyone who made arrangements to see me perform – I am sincerely sorry for letting you down.”
However, his apology came after Sun City Resort itself criticised him publicly. In a strong statement shared on social media, the resort claimed that Momo was “contracted, booked, and paid for” yet failed to arrive.
“Neither Momo nor his management have responded to any of Sun City’s requests for an update. We, along with our partners, have exhausted every avenue possible to ensure that he performs,” the resort said.
The venue also apologised to guests, saying: “We sincerely apologise for the disappointment and inconvenience caused as a result of the unprofessional and poor conduct of the artist concerned, which is beyond our control. Thank you for your understanding and continued support.”
This is not the first time Momo has faced criticism for missing gigs. In May 2025, Daily Sun reported that he failed to appear at three venues – Café 69, Piano Hub and Makubenjalo. At that time, he also issued a public apology, explaining that he had fallen ill.
“To our valued fans and patrons, we want to extend our sincerest apologies for missing our scheduled performances at Café 69, Piano Hub and Makubenjalo. Due to unforeseen health issues, our artist, Kelvin Momo, fell ill, forcing us to cancel these highly anticipated gigs,” read the statement.
It continued: “We understand the excitement and anticipation surrounding these events and are deeply sorry for any disappointment this may have caused. The well-being of our team is important, and we had no choice but to prioritise Kelvin’s health and recovery.”
