Reality TV star Jojo Robinson, known from The Real Housewives of Durban and The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip: Africa, has opened up about her chaotic, emotional, and unforgettable journey to Brazil. In a new travel vlog titled “Vlog – My first 4 days in Rio,” Jojo takes fans behind the scenes of her dramatic trip as she prepared to film the highly anticipated Ultimate Girls Trip Africa.
Jojo revealed that travelling internationally alone for the first time was overwhelming. “The flights where so scary for me, ive never traveled internationally alone so when I landed in SaoPaulo and I had to separate from ann for my last flight I absolutely lost it and cried in the airport in front of everyone, no one could understand me and I couldnt connect ny phone to wifi and I was completely lost,” she shared. The stress didn’t end there. Due to a plane malfunction earlier in the day, she was already delayed and feeling unsettled. “Also our plane had broken down earlier so i was already late.. it was a mess..”
The star explained she travelled for more than 10 hours: one hour from Durban to Johannesburg, over 10 hours from Johannesburg to São Paulo, and another hour to Rio. She also shared that she and Annie were on the same second flight, but their Johannesburg-to-São Paulo plane “almost broke,” making them nearly miss their final connection. Jojo said this chaos is why she couldn’t film the last leg of the trip.
Once in Rio, things didn’t get easier. Jojo said the cast was placed in separate hotels before filming began. “We stayed all separated in Rio for 2 days untill filming started and my room even before filming was one of the absolute worst. i had to try upgrade myself but they had nothing much better available,” she shared. Even after the upgrade, she still felt unlucky. “From what I saw I got the worst room and hotel even prior to filming.” Her upgraded room had a view of buildings and cars. “My hotel room view for the next 2 days everyone else had a beach lol,” she wrote.
When filming finally began, Jojo said the villa was beautiful, even though her room situation didn’t improve much. “Compared to everyones mine was BAD BAD, im not sure what happened. Or what i did wrong Lol.” She later revealed that she and Angel switched rooms once they were in the villa because they preferred each other’s spaces.
Despite the stress, Jojo said the experience was still incredible. “Overall all tho.. A real once in a lifetime trip! and I cant wait to keep showing you bts as the episodes air and things heat up..” She also shared fun moments at the beach, behind-the-scenes clips, and bonding moments with the cast and crew. “Trust me.. i know what’s coming. This cast and production are FIRE. JUST WAIT!”
On Instagram Stories, Jojo opened up about the emotional toll of leaving her family for three weeks. “I literally cried at the airport when I had to leave them for 3 weeks and my rocco was sad.. I was finished when I walked away but I had to be brave in front of him.” She described crying under her blanket on the plane, struggling with guilt. “I cried so many times on this flight. I hid under the blankets and cried because I felt so bad and selfish leaving my family so long.”
The emotional ending of her journey was just as intense. “Once i landed in Rio the team found me.. the most stressful time of my life. Anns missed her flight cause of our second flight breaking. I just made it by like 2 minutes. I cried and begged them to let me on.”
