Real Housewives of Durban star Jojo Robinson has shared some personal news with her fans, revealing that she has been diagnosed with invasive skin cancer. The reality TV star took to her Instagram stories to give an update on her health and explain the steps she’s taking to manage the condition.
Jojo explained that she visited her doctor, a skin specialist, for a full-body scan ahead of her upcoming surgery. “We did a full body scan because before we do the full surgery on Friday for my skin cancer surgery he has to just make sure that there’s nothing else. I have none on the rest of my body I only have five on my back. This is not ideal, however, sh*t could be worse. This is why I’m like positive vibes and positive energy,” she said.
She also shared the emotional impact the diagnosis has on her tattoos. Jojo, whose body is roughly 90% covered in ink, said, “Before Friday someone gave me good advice to take a beautiful photo or video of my back which I’m going to do because obviously that’s my back piece that’s is going to be f***ed up, completely messed. That’s sad to me because I am going to lose that because that was years of pain to make that back piece, but I will be healthy so that what matters.”
According to True Love, Jojo clarified that her tattoos did not cause the skin cancer. “It has nothing to do with my tattoos… If you know anything about skin cancer, you would know it’s genetic, and it is the sun. It has nothing to do with this,” she explained. She added that the condition runs in her family, noting that her mother, who has no tattoos, has also dealt with skin cancer.
Still, Jojo admitted that her tattoos could present some challenges during treatment. “The only way the tattoos impact it, is because essentially skin cancer is something you live with the rest of your life. When I need skin grafts… what I’ve worked on for eight years could potentially be ruined,” she said.
