Former Miss South Africa contestant Chidimma Adetshina has left South Africa behind, declaring on Nigerian radio that she has no plans to return to the country she called home for 23 years. Speaking candidly on Cool FM, the beauty queen opened up about her decision to embrace life in Nigeria, where she is now competing for the Miss Universe Nigeria title.
Adetshina’s departure from South Africa follows a tumultuous period in her life, marked by an ongoing investigation by Home Affairs. The inquiry, which forced her to withdraw from the Miss SA pageant, revolves around allegations that her mother may have committed identity fraud during her birth. The investigation has already implicated three officials, with Parliament recently informed that Adetshina’s mother allegedly stole the identity of a Tshwane woman.
Reflecting on the challenges she faced during her time in South Africa, Adetshina admitted, “It has been so hard, I won’t lie. There were times I would literally cry myself to sleep, like why me? I wanted it to end.” Despite the difficulties, she credits the unwavering support from her fans and family for helping her persevere.
Now, according to IOL News, Adetshina is embracing her Nigerian roots and finding joy in her father’s land. When asked if she sees herself permanently relocating to Lagos, she didn’t hesitate. “I think it’s safe to say I am not going back again. It is amazing, it has been amazing. I am not even looking forward to going back. I just want to explore more, I want to stay longer and see what happens next.”
Though she has fond memories of South Africa, particularly its stunning beaches and vibrant cities like Cape Town and Johannesburg, Adetshina is focused on her future in Nigeria. She’s eyeing new opportunities, including a potential stint on Big Brother Nigeria and launching a motivational podcast.
