Mpumalanga-born audiologist and founder of the Caring Purpose Foundation, Romanda Hombir, is reflecting on an emotional new chapter after being named Miss World Africa 2026 at the 73rd Miss World pageant in Vietnam on 5 September 2026.

The prestigious pageant brought together contestants from across the globe, with Joheirry Mola of the Dominican Republic ultimately crowned Miss World 2026. For Hombir, however, the experience ended with a title carrying a deeper meaning — one that places her in a position to represent not only South Africa, but the African continent.

Speaking to Puerto Rican beauty pageant titleholder Danny Mejía following the grand finale, Hombir opened up about the moment she realised she had taken on a new role and responsibility.

“It feels so surreal. I can’t believe that’s my new title and the new responsibility I get to carry with pride and joy. I’m hoping that my country is proud.”

For Hombir, the title is about far more than the glamour and recognition associated with an international beauty pageant. Her work as a clinical audiologist and her role as founder of the Caring Purpose Foundation have placed her close to issues surrounding care, opportunity and the wellbeing of children.

She said she hoped her achievement would help shine a brighter spotlight on Africa and the work being done across the continent to create better opportunities for its people.

“I’m hoping that my country is proud, My continent is proud, and also that the world can see that Africa is actively working towards improving our countries and being united and working towards ensuring our children are getting the love and care that they deserve,” said Hombir, a clinical audiologist.

Her words reflected a sense of purpose that has followed her throughout her journey — using the visibility that comes with the Miss World Africa title to draw attention to issues that matter beyond the pageant stage.

Hombir also took a moment to acknowledge the people who supported her throughout the competition, from those who voted for her to those who offered prayers and encouragement.

“Thank you, I cannot thank each one of you enough for all the support that I’ve received throughout this journey from the kind words to the prayers and to the voting. I’ve seen it all. I am so grateful, this is for us. This is not just for my nation South Africa but for all of  Africa.”
