The media and entertainment industry is in mourning following the passing of Nkateko Mabaso, the former MultiChoice, M-Net, and Netflix Africa executive. Mabaso, renowned for his pivotal role in iconic productions like Isibaya and The Queen, as well as major events such as the Channel O Awards and the DStv Mzansi Viewers’ Choice Awards (DMVCAs), passed away on June 19 due to an undisclosed illness.
Mabaso’s death has left a significant void in the industry, with many paying tribute to his contributions and legacy. However, amidst the outpouring of grief, media personality Minnie Dlamini has found herself embroiled in controversy.
Blogger Musa Khawula recently accused Dlamini of having a romantic relationship with the late Mabaso, alleging that she cheated on her estranged husband, Quinton Jones, with him. Dlamini, outraged by the claim, took to social media to vehemently deny the accusations. In a fiery post on X (formerly Twitter), she retorted, “I thought you said I cheated with Edwin Sodi? Now it’s Nkateko Mabaso? Which one is it? Who is next? Let it go bro damn. This is incredibly disrespectful to my friend’s family and his memory. People are mourning you have no shame!”
The accusations against Dlamini have been widely criticised as disrespectful and insensitive, given the timing and the grief surrounding Mabaso’s death. Edwin Sodi, previously mentioned in similar allegations, is a well-known but controversial South African businessman and the chief executive of Blackhead Consulting.
As the industry continues to honour Mabaso’s memory and celebrate his achievements, his influence on the South African entertainment landscape will not be forgotten, and his contributions will continue to inspire future generations.
