After that #RIPKamo story on Twitter, we think it only makes sense to double check people’s ‘grieving’ stories more especially when there’s money involved.
Last week an anonymous caller called into Bonang’s show for the #AskAMan segment, where ladies call in to ask for relationship advice from other men to try an understand their man’s thinking.
The anonymous caller shared a story that had the whole nation including Bonang Matheba in tears.
The woman shared a story that her boyfriend cheated on her with her best friend and left her HIV positive.
The story got crazier when the woman shared that their 4-year-old son has recently passed and that she has no money for his burial as her boyfriend fled with the funeral cover pay out of R16 000.00 and spending it with his side chick.
Insane right?
Condolences poured in for her and her family with a number of people trying to track anonymous down to find out how they could help with the burial preparations.
Get this, her story was all a lie.
Speaking to ZAlebs The Front Row’s programme manager, Tony, explains how they found out that the callers story was all a lie when listeners tried reaching out to help and anonymous’ story kept on changing.
“It so happened that, I think the gentleman from Avbob wanted to help, he asked for the address of where you can go to the morgue, she gave an address. When he went there there was no body… There was no body, it was in Kimberley, first of all. She said she was in Pretoria.” It was found that there were no records of the child ever being there.
Tony then goes on to share that they gave the lady a call on Friday afternoon. “She gave me a different name, then she gave me a different story – similar story, but she sort of twisted the words here and there. I told her I’m a listener and I want to help… She then said what they need is money for the food [R50,000].”
Tony then offered to buy the groceries himself and have them delivered to her home, she dropped the phone and when he tried calling her back she didn’t pick up and only wanted to talk via text messages.
Metro FM is currently investigating the matter further. Tony then adds that they will be taking more stringent steps to make sure that their callers stories are legit.
“We are gonna carry on with the feature. It’s a great feature.”
Bonang also took to social media to warn her listeners to not donate to the scammer.
