The anticipation is palpable as the nominees for the third edition of the Basadi in Music Awards (BIMAs) have been announced, setting the stage for an electrifying ceremony at Joburg Theatre in Johannesburg, South Africa, on 10 August.

Hosted virtually by the dynamic media personality Ipeleng Selepe, the announcement event was anything but ordinary. Selepe’s charisma was matched by captivating performances from Wanda Baloyi, Makhanj, and DJ Mmatsheko Mosito, adding a layer of excitement and flair to the proceedings.

Leading the pack with an impressive five nominations is the Grammy-winning sensation, Tyla. Her stellar year has earned her nods in the Pop Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Styled Artist of the Year, Music Video of the Year, and the prestigious Artist of the Year categories. Tyla’s presence in the nominations list is a testament to her remarkable impact on the music industry.

Hot on her heels are DJ Zinhle and Lwah Ndlunkulu, each securing four nominations. DJ Zinhle’s contributions have been recognised in the Collaboration of the Year for her work on ‘Thula’ with Cici and ‘Mdali’ with Basetsana, DJ of the Year, and Music Video of the Year. Meanwhile, Lwah Ndlunkulu’s talent has earned her nominations for Afropop Artist of the Year, Music Video of the Year, Song of the Year, and Artist of the Year.

Equally impressive are Kamo Mphela and Cici, who have also garnered four nominations each. Kamo Mphela is in the running for Amapiano Artist of the Year, Music Video of the Year for ‘Dali’, Artist of the Year, and Song of the Year. Cici’s versatility shines through her nominations for Collaboration of the Year, Dance Artist of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, and Music Video of the Year.

Not far behind is Makhadzi, whose talent has earned her nominations for Songwriter of the Year, Dance Artist of the Year, and Artist of the Year.

As the countdown to the ceremony begins, fans and industry insiders alike are buzzing with excitement, eager to see who will take home the coveted awards. The Basadi in Music Awards continue to celebrate and elevate the incredible women in the music industry, shining a spotlight on their contributions and achievements.
