GQ Awards Drop Unathi As The Host Following Kaya FM Termination. When it rains it pours and Unathi Nkayi is definitely feeling the cold showers. Seeing a celeb lose almost everything after a huge scandal is no surprise as we’ve seen with the likes of katlego Maboe, Somizi and now Unathi. Reports have confirmed that Unathi will no longer be hosting the GQ awards due to unforeseeable circumstances.
The Sunday World publication has revealed that the former Kaya FM DJ who was scheduled to host this year’s edition of the ‘GQ Man Of The Year Awards’ ceremony has been dropped by the show and the platform is currently in talks with other people who will potentially take over the duties. The awards platform which aims to recognize men and women who inspire, lead and shape the cultural landscape will be taking place November 27th 2021.
Speaking to Channel24, GQ’s Editor in Chief Molife Kumona confirmed the reports claiming that the singer was let go due to unforeseen circumstances however, they still maintain a good relationship with the SA Idols judge and look forward to working together in the future.
“It is with regret that singer-songwriter, businesswoman, entertainer and reality show judge Unathi will no longer be joining us for our event due to unforeseen circumstances. However, we continue our long-standing relationship with Unathi and look forward to upcoming opportunities in the future” Kumona said.
This comes after the drama between Unathi and her now former colleague Sizwe Dlomo, after falsely accusing Dhlomo of verbal abuse and being toxic in the work place.
The media reported on the verbal altercation was between former Midday Joy host Unathi and Afternoon Drive presenter Sizwe Dhlomo. According to the publication, Unathi complained that Dhlomo who hosts the slot after hers, arrived late for the handover of his show which made it difficult for her to introduce the highlights of the upcoming show.
Nkayi reported Dhlomo to authorities for “reputation damage” to human resources (HR) saying Dhlomo was aggressive and verbally abused her, using the F-word during their squabble, which left her feeling intimidated.
The following day, Nkayi went back to HR to see to Dhlomo’s disciplinary but Unfortunately based on the recordings of the argument that were presented, HR ruled that the audio did not support Unathi’s version of events and her disciplinary hearing led to her dismissal.
A lot of people on social media including GBV activist Ntsiki Mazwai and Rosie Motene have shared how disappointed they are by Unathi’s actions, claiming that she has caused major setbacks to the GBV movement
