Johannesburg – Gospel music fans are eagerly awaiting the solo debut of Nozipho Phiri, a celebrated lead and background vocalist for the internationally renowned gospel group Joyous Celebration. Phiri is set to release her live album at Goshen City Church in Westdene on June 29.
The album, which blends traditional South African gospel with contemporary influences, showcases Phiri’s versatile soprano voice. “This album is a profound reflection of my personal faith journey,” she said. “Each song is a heartfelt expression that originates from the depths of my soul’s encounters with the grace of God.”
Phiri’s rise to prominence began in 2010 when she reached the top 10 on the South African gospel competition show I Want To Sing Gospel. She soon joined Joyous Celebration, where her performances on hits like Mayenzeke, Mukhulu Ujesu, and Ngizokulandela solidified her status as a vocal powerhouse.
Her path has not been without challenges. Phiri endured the loss of her sister and mother in quick succession, a period that tested her faith and inspired deeper musical ministry. She reflected to Times LIVE that during those times, she felt an even greater need to delve deeply into her faith and continue ministering through music.
In an interview with Times LIVE, Phiri shared her excitement about her solo venture. She explained that being with Joyous Celebration was the beginning for her, but she’s always felt she had so much more to offer. Fans can expect a deeply spiritual and musically rich experience from her new album, marking the start of an exciting new chapter in her career.
