Award-winning rapper Gigi Lamayne has praised fellow artist Makhadzi for her groundbreaking achievements, particularly her successful One Woman Show, which took place on 21 December at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane, Limpopo. The event, which attracted huge crowds, was a testament to the growing influence of female artists in South Africa’s music scene.
Speaking to Daily Sun, Gigi shared her admiration for Makhadzi’s impact, emphasising the importance of supporting local talent. “Support local talents because we, as Africans, strive to make history,” Gigi said.
The 30-year-old hip-hop star reflected on her own pioneering role, noting that in 2019, she hosted the first One Woman Show by a female hip-hop artist in Africa. “As crazy as it seemed back then, I’m thrilled to see my fellow female artists taking this idea to new heights—not just as performers, but as powerful women breaking boundaries,” she explained.
Gigi believes these achievements are paving the way for future generations of women in music. “The more we do the unimaginable, the more we create a reputation for female artists as capable of competing with and coexisting alongside our male counterparts,” she said. “Makhadzi has earned her title as the Queen of Limpopo. She’s worked extremely hard, won countless accolades, and continues to deliver timeless music and electrifying performances. The future is truly female.”
Gigi also highlighted the importance of supporting African music on a global scale. “Supporting musicians with big concerts helps us grow together and celebrate African music as a whole,” she said. “Makhadzi’s show proves that we’re capable of meeting and exceeding these demands when united.”
For Gigi, it’s time for South African artists to shine on the global stage. “This is South Africa’s time,” she said. “We’ve seen artists winning awards across the globe, proving that the world must respect us as a world-class, entertaining nation. Beyond sports and other achievements, we offer world-class entertainment that inspires audiences worldwide.”
