Media personality and radiologist Musa Mthombeni has left fans feeling nostalgic after sharing a childhood picture from his YoTV days and reflecting on the impact the iconic children’s programme had on young South Africans.

Taking to social media, Dr Musa posted an old YoTV postcard picture from the mid-2000s and hilariously reflected on his hairstyle at the time.

“Daddies may be down but CutiePies were up!” he wrote.

“This picture is from the YOTV postcards from the mid 2000s. S-curl daddies were up- I had a 2 weekly appointment at Sis Thembi’s Hair Salon to increase my Dark and Loveliness. When I still had hair Nkosi yam.”

The television personality joked that anyone who remembers that era is probably old enough to have children preparing for university.

“If you remember this time, you honestly should be married and your first born is likely doing matric next year. You need to start figuring out how you’re gonna pay for their 4 year degree.”

Dr Musa also reflected on how important YoTV was while growing up, praising the variety of educational and entertaining shows it offered children.

“YOTV was such amazing programming for kids hey. If you look on the right, you’ll see some of the shows that you could watch. Everything from magazine shows with serious interviews, an entrepreneurial show about how to run a business, a music show for finding singing talent, a quiz show to test general knowledge. It’s crazy how important YOTV was to the young South Africa!”

His wife, former Miss South Africa, Liesl Laurie Mthombeni, also joined in on the nostalgic moment with a sweet comment under the post.

“I remember watching you and thinking why does he speak so fast lol. Now that fast speaking, noise making excitement lights up our home everyday. Awwwww my cutie pie.”

Dr Musa’s entertainment career started while he was still in high school after landing a presenter role on YoTV, where he hosted several popular shows. He later worked at Voice of Wits FM in 2010 before joining YFM as an on-air host from 2012 to 2014. In 2017, he expanded his television career further after securing a hosting role on SABC3’s Trending SA.
