DJ lag releases his final single Iza Ngamandla ahead of sophomore album THE REBELLION

Iza Ngamandla, loosely translated as “It’s Coming With Power” is a collaboration with KNZ Singer songwriter Sykes and JHB based DJ producer Vanco . DJ Lag once again seamlessly blends genres like 3Step and Afro Tech into a deeply rooted Gqom arrangement, touching the soul of South African soil through hard drum patterns and elevating melodies. Sykes, a rising power in the SA music scene has been on a tear with recent releases and most notably his smash hit with Dlala Thukzin, iPlan. Vanco, an Afro Tech veteran, has contributed additional production.

“I’ve had the idea for this song for a while now, Vanco and I worked on a similar song last year which was lost due to a computer crash and when we got back in the studio it shaped into something different. After Sykes laid down his vocals I took the song back and made some changes inspired by his writing and delivery. It evolved from being a beat driven production to a real song, as I wanted the arrangement to really tell a story and convey a powerful message,” shares DJ Lag.

THE REBELLION album will be out on Wednesday the 26th of June. 

The 13-track album ‘The Rebellion’ cements DJ Lag as a pioneering force in Gqom, masterfully blending innovation with a deep respect for his musical roots. This standout in his discography offers a rich and diverse mix, staying true to Lag’s unique sound while exploring 3Step, Afro Tech, Amapiano, Hip Hop, and Drill. Building on the success of his debut album, ‘Meeting With The King’, it represents a bold evolution and features a stellar lineup of guest artists. Hits like ‘Hade Boss’ and ‘The Re-Up’ have expanded his influence, achieving viral status and earning a platinum record in South Africa with over 10 million streams. The Rebellion features some of South Africa’s most talented musicians including DJ Maphorisa, Kamo Mphela, Robot Boii, Blxckie and YoungstaCPT to name a few.
 

Leading up to the album DJ lag has been on an international tour recently having finished his EU leg of the world tour with a successful headline show in London, and a US tour commencing this Friday 7th June with a highly anticipated two dates at Glastonbury Festival.
