Denise Zimba has undeniably established herself as one of South Africa’s most multifaceted and talented creative individuals over the past decade. Her prowess spans various domains, including music, acting, dancing, and presenting, showcasing both versatility and depth in her craft.

Despite her remarkable body of work and undeniable talent, Zimba has largely operated under the mainstream media’s radar and has not consistently received recognition at the highest echelons of the entertainment industry. This recurring oversight by the industry has been a point of contention for her. She has not hesitated to voice her discontent.

The most recent instance of this disappointment occurred at the South African Film And Television Awards (SAFTAs). Where Zimba’s outstanding supporting role in ‘How To Ruin Christmas’ went unrecognized. This was a role widely praised by both critics and audiences alike. Further, highlighting the industry’s failure to acknowledge her contributions.

In response to the award snub, Zimba took to Twitter, expressing her initial reaction with a simple, “Ya ne.” However, she didn’t stop there; a few hours later, she penned a more comprehensive tweet in which she conveyed her gratitude to her loyal supporters and subtly criticized the “industry.”

In her own words, Zimba shared, “I’m grateful that the people see me. Even though the industry tries to deny that I am one of the best to do it. Thank you to everyone that sees my talent, acknowledges it, and gives credit where credit is due!”

Zimba’s SAFTA nomination was for the coveted title of Best Supporting Actress in a TV Comedy. Recognizing her exceptional portrayal of the character Zama in the well-received third season of ‘How To Ruin Christmas.’ Regrettably, the award ultimately went to Kate Normington for her role in ‘Tali’s Joburg Diary.’

Denise fans and supporters rallied around her on social media, showering her with love and affirmations. One user, @notmibikayiseba6, emphasized, “You definitely have the talent, sweetheart, no one can take that away from you.”

Another user, @spokenpriestess, chimed in with unwavering support. Stating, “I’m afraid you’re GOATed miss, and no one can ever take that away! You just are – whether the industry wants to see it or not. They know it, too, in the depths of their weird shenanigans. ❤️ You are HER ✨️.”

@unathisthl reminisced about Zimba’s impact. Saying, “Come on, I was in 7th Grade watching V-entertainment every day at 6 just to hear you read my tweets live. What do they mean you’re not the best to do it??!! 😭😭😭❤️❤️😩.”

In sum, Denise Zimba’s latest SAFTA snub serves as yet another reminder of the industry’s failure to fully recognize her undeniable talent and contributions to South African entertainment. However, her loyal fan base continues to stand firmly beside her, acknowledging her greatness even when the industry falls short.
