Rapper Leslie “Da L.E.S” Mampe, known for his contributions to South Africa’s entertainment industry, has been hospitalized after suffering a stroke just days before his 39th birthday. Initially admitted to a private hospital in Sandton, he has since been moved to a public hospital, as reported by ZiMoja.
The move to the public hospital came shortly after the arrival of Da L.E.S’ mother, Priscilla Mampe, who flew in from the United States to be by her son’s side. A close friend who visited the rapper described his condition as serious. “He can see and hear everyone but he cannot speak or move. He was put in intensive care at a private hospital in Sandton and was moved to the public hospital a day ago,” the friend shared. Despite his critical condition, the friend noted that Da L.E.S’ eyes show a fighting spirit.
Concerns over the rapper’s medical expenses have prompted friends to seek donations. “Da L.E.S contributed immensely to the country’s entertainment business, and it is a sign of Ubuntu to donate when someone is ill,” said the friend. “People donate when there is a wedding, a funeral, or a birthday, so why not for the recovery of one of our own stars?”
Earlier this week, Da L.E.S’ friends appealed for public support to help cover his medical bills. Despite the challenges, the rapper’s family and friends remain hopeful for his recovery. In a recent statement, his family confirmed that he is in stable condition. “This remains a challenging time for his loved ones, and his family calls on the public to keep him in their thoughts and prayers as they navigate this difficult period,” the statement read. A spokesperson for the Mampe family has yet to be appointed, and Da L.E.S’ mother, Priscilla Mampe, declined to comment.
