Christall Kay is once again at the centre of the drama on The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls: Africa, which is currently airing on Showmax and Mzansi Magic.
In an interview with Showmax, Christall shared her honest thoughts about watching the show back, reconnecting with Evodia, clashing with other cast members, and how the public has responded to her this season.
Seeing Evodia again after many years brought unexpected comfort for Christall. “It was so comforting to see Evodia after all these years, even though we had been archenemies on the first season of The Real Housewives of Johannesburg. It was such a surprise to see her, and immediately I felt that we had a newfound bond and that things would be very different between us this time. The chemistry of our new meeting and the sparkle of our friendship were endearing.”
Christall admitted she was disappointed by Jojo’s behaviour on the show. “Jojo and I had always had an Instagram friendship and admired each other from afar… It was disappointing to see how she stuck with her group of friends she had made from Nigeria and her Durban buddies, even when they were in the wrong and never came around to understand that I had been innocent in most of the dealings with the other ladies.”
Christall explained that the Brazil trip felt very different from the Jamaica one. “The Rio ladies were different from the Jamaica ladies in the sense that I had no real close associations with any of them… The only person who had known me from before was Evodia and she turned into my greatest ally.”
She added that the attacks in Jamaica hurt more. “Jamaica was more emotional for me, as my so-called friends, who had previous relationships with me, attacked and put me down. That was far more hurtful than complete strangers calling me out for nothing.”
Christall feels the ladies in Brazil never really gave her a chance. “The ladies gave me absolutely no chance, despite the fact that I was being friendly and just wanted to have a good time. It was their way of grabbing the spotlight and creating drama, fake drama…”
She believes staying calm is her biggest strength. “I guess I remain as detached as possible in moments when the ladies are coming for me… I held my composure and gave it back in a way that made them realise they shouldn’t be messing with me.”
Christall admitted there was one moment she wishes she handled differently. “Yes, I wish I hadn’t pinched Princess’s cheeks when she was coming for me the way she did… it is never the right thing to use any form of touch or physical action in an argument.”
While Brazil was beautiful, romance did not quite happen. “I did meet a nice guy in Rio… However, we were more like friends, so I wouldn’t say I found romance with him.”
Christall says the love from viewers has meant a lot to her. “This season, the public was more on my side than they ever have been… It has given me hope to know that people really do care and that they have a sense of justice.”
For Christall, being a Housewife is about more than drama. “The perfect Housewife is a woman who has style, class, confidence in herself, charisma, personality, and the ability to stand up for herself. Most importantly, she has great character and is real.”
