We all know that last week Woolworths had a huge announcement for us and it was that they’ll be collaborating with world music and fashion icon Pharrell Williams. Let’s keep in mind that Woolworths is also not only based in South Africa but has a global footprint to maintain as they also have stores in countries as far as the UK so it only makes sense that they use someone as well known as Pharrell.
It seems the announcement of the new relation between Woolworths and Pharrell did not sit well with some people, to mention names Cassper Nyovest. Cassper took to Twitter to express his ‘disappointment’ we should call it in how corporates ‘like Woolworths’ are using international celebs instead of locals to grow there brand and collaborate with.
Now we not saying we disagree with Cassper but how many people in the UK would know a South African celeb over Pharrell Williams? We’re not saying that South African celebrities are irrelevant but it just makes more business sense to use someone like Pharrell (who has collaborated with sports brands such as Adidas ) to grow your brand.
