Actor Bonko Khoza recently took to social media to celebrate and appreciate his fellow actor, Thembinkosi Mthembu. This touching message came shortly after one of Shaka iLembe’s most emotional episodes aired, marking the end of Thembinkosi’s role as King Dingiswayo.
In his heartfelt post, Bonko wrote: “APPRECIATION POST – @thembinkosi_mthembu
Mvelase methu – I say it to you every time we cross paths, but I’ll say it again here, loud and proud: I’m your biggest fan.
From the moment you stepped onto our screens as Mabutho, I knew we were witnessing something special. You’ve moved from strength to strength, role to role, leaving a legacy of truth, power, and undeniable talent in every performance.
You’re not just one of the greatest of our generation – you’re a giant carving your name into the history books of South African storytelling. You’ve inspired me, as an actor and as a man. And you continue to inspire a whole generation.
Khuphuka lapho Mvelase. We see you. We celebrate you. And we’re right behind you.”
Bonko’s words came after the powerful scene in Shaka iLembe that saw the death of King Dingiswayo, a respected leader played by Thembinkosi. The moment touched many viewers and marked the actor’s exit from the series.
The show’s official Instagram page also shared an emotional tribute on Sunday, 27 July: “Tonight we bade farewell to our beloved character, King Dingiswayo, portrayed with extraordinary depth and dignity by @thembinkosi__mthembu.
A great king. A visionary leader. A man of unwavering honour… We pay tribute to the character and to the remarkable actor who brought him to life from season 1 through to season 2, episode 7. We salute you, Thembinkosi.”
Fans and stars alike praised his performance. Musician Zulu Mkhatini commented, “Your performance was world class, highly impressed! Well done bafo usebenzile!”
The appreciation from Bonko and others highlights the powerful impact Thembinkosi has made as an actor and a storyteller.
