Black Twitter Drags Miss South Africa Lalela Mswane Into Israel Travel Ban Following Reports Of New COVID-19 Variant. Miss South Africa winner Lalela Mswane is not having a great start to her rain following her Miss Universe drama with the Palestinian Solidarity Alliance. Lalela was in the process of preparing for the Miss Universe pageant that was supposed to take place in Israel this coming December.

Despite the boycotting and outcry of South Africans and Palestinians against Mswane’s participation in the pageant, the Miss SA platform had made their final decision and it seems like they might have had a point. Reports of a new COVID-19 variant called B11259 has taken over certain parts of the world including South Africa, and the infection levels are rapidly rising.

The virus is said to have mutated and taken a form that is far more dangerous than previous variants and other countries want no part of it. Following reports of the virus detection in Mzansi, Israel has banned travel to and from countries in Southern Africa as they are concerned by the new COVID variant.

This of course has caused major backlash for the Miss South Africa organization and Lalela after they were advised by the entire nation to withdraw from the competition. Social media users have since been critisizing Lalela following Israel’s travel ban and it looks like nobody is even mad about it.

It was previously reported that the Palestine Solidarity Alliance pleaded with the Miss South Africa platform to withdraw from the upcoming Miss Universe pageant due to the ongoing Palestinian protests against the Israeli apartheid government. The Miss South Africa organization responded to the outcry claiming it has no association to politics nor is it interested in a political war of words and are looking forward to watching Miss SA make the country proud on an international stage.

The South African government then released a statement withdrawing their support of the pageant, saying due to South Africa’s apartheid history, they feel it is important to show solidarity to the Palestinians as they did when the roles were reversed. Miss SA CEO Stephanie Weil confirmed to the media that the issue was not taken lightly however, Lalela is adamant to go to Israel and represent the country. This is a big egg on the face for Lalela and Mzansi is having fun with tweeting their “we told you so” remarks on twitter.

Not y'all coming for Lalela, when you've praying and singing about going to Jerusalem. Where do you think Jerusalem is at?

So Lalela defied the founding ethos of the country and in the process risked her reputation to go to a country that might not let her in.
