Beauty queen and model Chidimma Adetshina’s mother, Anabela Rungo, was granted bail by the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, as reported by Sowetan LIVE. The court’s decision was made on the condition that Rungo will live under house arrest.
Rungo is accused of violating the Immigration Act and the Identification Act. The court previously heard from an immigration officer who testified that Rungo had failed to respond to a warning letter in September 2024. The letter informed her that her ID number would be revoked, but she was given the opportunity to object, which she did not do.
Rungo, who was arrested on February 15 in Summer Greens, Cape Town, was found living with a revoked ID. Authorities also discovered that she had allegedly committed identity fraud to obtain citizenship. In her defense, Rungo claimed that no arrest warrant had been issued and declared that she would plead not guilty.
Magistrate Sadiqah Guendouz ordered Rungo’s release on bail of R10,000, with strict conditions. She will remain under house arrest and is only allowed to leave for court appearances or legal consultations. Immigration officers and police will also monitor her movements.
The case has been postponed to May 8 for further investigation.
