Fan-favourite actress Ama Qamata, whose full name is Amamkele Lithemba Qamata and who is widely known for her role on Netflix’s hit series Blood & Water, is grieving the loss of her father, Marcus. The actress, who also portrayed Buhle, Katlego Danke’s on-screen daughter in Mzansi Magic’s Gomora, shared the heartbreaking news with her fans over the weekend.
On Sunday, 31 August 2025, Qamata took to Instagram to announce her father’s passing, sharing a series of personal photos of herself with Marcus. In her heartfelt post, she wrote: “In this moment nothing feels real, life will never be the same again. I love you, Marcus, and I wish I had the opportunity to tell you that one more time you were the best dad in the entire world. I will miss your sarcastic jokes, your very dry sense of humour lol and our conversations that would last for hours. You didn’t always say much, but in those moments I knew I had your undivided love and attention. You loved all of us so deeply, and I am so blessed to have been part of your life. God knows how much you’ve changed mine. You always loved this song, and now I’ll hold onto it as a reminder of you and the love you gave us. Rest in eternal peace, papa, until we meet again.”
Fans and fellow celebrities quickly responded to her post, offering words of comfort and support. Blood & Water actress Gail Mabalane wrote, “I’m so, so sorry, Ama. I am praying for you and the family. ‘God is close to the brokenhearted.’ I love you.”
Shaka ILembe actress Nomzamo Mbatha added, “Nxese (I’m sorry), Ama. May angels assigned to your healing and comfort, rush to you and your family’s side with the peace of heaven and God’s love. Phephisani.” Model Refilwe Modiselle also shared her sympathy, writing, “Sending you so much love to you & your loved ones in this difficult time. May God bring you divine peace & comfort.”
Ama also shared a touching video in her Instagram story featuring her late father speaking about her. In the clip, Marcus fondly recalls meeting Ama for the first time: “I’ve known Ama since she was 8 years old. She came into my life when I met her mother. I knew from the beginning that she wants to be a star… you did what you had to do and you did it and that is great and I applaud you for that.”
Ama Qamata is now navigating life without her father, cherishing the memories and love he shared with her.
