Shots Fired! No One Is Safe At The Comedy Central Roast Of Khanyi Mbau. Comedy Central hosted their first African female roast globally in July with the Comedy Central Roast of Khanyi Mbau brought to you by Showmax coming to life at the Montecasino Teatro on 21st July.
This world first for the brand was packed with not just the danger of shocking verbal slams amongst the cast, but also exceptional world class production which saw the #RoastofKhanyi stage design living up to all the Queen of Bling’s fans expectations. On the night in question, the starlet honored her short-lived music career with an unexpected performance alongside prince of social media culture, Robot Boii. The comical performance by Miss Mbau set the bar for an audience to be prepared for anything as Roast master Mpho Popps declared “no one is safe”. Khanyi gamely faced down the roasts from a panel of Mzansi’s tabloid favourites including her rapper friend and Hip-Hop “it girl”, Nadia Nakai, the larger-than-life podcaster Sol Phenduka, comedy powerhouse Celeste Ntuli and multi-faceted veteran actor Sello Maake KaNcube. Also amongst the panellists was Capetonian rapper YoungstaCPT, previously retired comedian John Vlismas, investigative TV guru, Devi Sankaree Govender, radio’s best gift TBO Touch as well as DSTV Viewer’s Choice Award winner Selbeyonce Mkhize, all ready to throw big punches.
“Imagine having one of the ‘brightest’ women in the game as a first African female to be roasted…now, add bling to that. I’m bringing Marilyn Monroe-level status to this edition of the Roast. I’m the only real celebrity powerhouse fit to make history as the first African female to be roasted, and I’m thrilled to have been at the helm to deliver an incredible show full of unforgettable moments and laughter about bling, skin, and everything else I made iconic,” said Khanyi.
Hilarious Roast Master, Mpho Popps did a phenomenal job of keeping the audience entertained during the show, holding nothing back with hilarious and brutal commentary on the casts’ opinions about each other’s careers and life choices. Here’s a sneak peek at some especially feisty burns:
- Nadia, your success in this country is our attempt to apologise for Xenophobia
- Celeste and her front teeth took a gap year and it looks like the teeth never came back
- Tbo Touch’s nose is so big he looks like he snorts cocaine with an exhaust pipe
“This year’s roast allowed us to reignite an industry and a nation, especially post Covid19. Laughter truly is the best medicine and with a dynamic and hilarious roast panel, we had the audience in stitches. Now it’s time for audiences at home to share in the fun. Expect the unexpected,” said Dillon Khan, Vice President for Comedy Central Africa.
If you missed the chance to see the show live, it is now headed to your television screens, with a full series of all the fun on offer for audiences to enjoy.
