Unathi Reportedly Takes A Break As A Judge On SA Idols. South African Idols seems to be making a few changes to the competition this coming season after it was reported that Somizi would be making a comeback as a guest judge on the show. While fans of the show seemed to be pleased by the news, we are saddened that Unathi will reportedly be taking some time away from the show.
It was revealed by The City Press that Unathi Nkayi will not be returning as a judge on the upcoming season 18 of the competition. Sources close to Idols SA have revealed that Nkayi was rather axed from the show and is not taking a break. Reasons behind her termination have not yet been confirmed however, sources alleged that her tiff with Sizwe Dhlomo might have been what influenced the decision.
According to reports, Unathi’s “break” will take place during the return of fan favourite Somizi Mhlongo who was also booted from the show during season 17 last year. In November of last year, the streets of social media were in a frenzy following the axing of SA Idols judge Unathi by Kaya FM. It was confirmed that Unathi had been fired “effective immediately” from the station after a verbal conflict with Sizwe Dhlomo which ended very ugly.
The altercation started from when Unathi complained about Sizwe’s tardiness which affected how she delivered the highlight of the upcoming show. According to sources, Nkayi reported Dhlomo to authorities for “reputation damage”. The source also alleged that a heated argument between the two broke out following Nkayi’s accusations against Dhlomo’s late coming which affected her handing over the show.
After a thorough investigation, Unathi’s claims were found to be false and she was, unfortunately, let go from the station. After Unathi’s departure from Idols SA was reported, the masses on twitter seemed to have quite the opinion about it. According to tweeps, Unathi got a taste of her own medicine and they are actually quite happy that Som Som is making a fabulous comeback to the small screen.
Hectic!!
