The like of Nomzamo Mbatha, Thuso Mbedu and more have officially reached international status and have been rubbing shoulders with Hollywoods elite celebs while also getting praises from moguls like Oprah, Viola Davis and more.
Thuso Mbedu is living her best life and has finally peaked in her acting career. After bagging her first Hollywood lead role on the Barry Jenkins directed mini series The Underground railroad, Thuso’s career has grown in leaps and bounds and has landed other major acting opportunities since then. Awards season is upon us and as predicted, Thuso is racking in some major nods from prestigious awards platforms.

The coveted Black Reel Awards revealed this years nomination for the prestigious platform which serves to honour African American actors and actresses who have showcased their major talent in blockbuster films. The people of Mzansi were beaming with pride after our international superstar actress Thuso Mbedu also received a nod. Mbedu was nominated in the Outstanding TV Movie/Limited Series, Actor & Actress category along with other well known American stars including the likes of Chris Rock and Tessa Thompson.
Hollywood Critics Awards
The amazing news of Thuso having scored a Hollywood Critics Awards nomination was announced through the platforms twitter account and she has been selected in the Best Actress in a Limited Series, Anthology Series or Television Movie category. Mbedu has been nominated for her role as Cora on The Underground Railroad limited series alongside Anya Taylor-Joy, Cynthia Erivo, Elizabeth Olsen, Kate Winslet, Michaela Coel, and Zendaya.
Gotham Awards
It has been revealed that the actress has bagged a nomination for Outstanding Performance In a New series at the 2021 Gotham Awards for her role as Cora. The platform revealed the news via its twitter platform and her fans are very excited for her. Mbedu is up against well known actors including the likes of Jennifer Coolidge, Michael Greyeyes, Ethan Hawke and many more. We are also happy to report that she walked away with the win.
Critics choice Awards
Taking to social media, Mbedu recently revealed that the Hollywood production has been nominated at the Critics Choice Awards in the Best Limited Series, Best Actress in a Limited Series or Movie Made for Television, and Best Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Movie Made for Television! categories. Our girl deserves a special shout out for securing a nomination for Best Actress in a Limited series Choice Awards and we couldn’t be more proud.
Hollywood Critics Association & GQ Awards
A few months ago Thuso shared the exciting news of her Hollywood Critics Award honourary award and South African’s couldn’t be any more proud. The actress was recognized by the platform for her talents and awarded with the TV Breakout Star Award for her role on the Barry Jenkins directed mini series and Thuso is beyond happy about the win. Thuso was also celebrated here in Mzansi at the GQ Men of the Year Awards which took place recently. Mbedu bagged an award in the Woman of the Year category, and we think the title is very fitting.
