“Maybe I Play Too Much” Bishop Makamu Breaks His Silence Amid Sexual Assault Investigation. Tv host and church bishop Israel Makamu has been in hot water for the past week or so after a 2018 recording of him went resurfaced on social media. The bishop has since decided to step down as the host of his show on Moja Love until his alleged innocence is proven.
The recording see’s the bishop asking for sexual favours from one of his former church employees, who was underage at the time. The woman was an employee at Endless Hope Bible Church in 2018, when the pastor began giving her inappropriate looks. Later in the day, the woman noticed numerous missed calls from Makamu and decided to return the call.
Israel later allegedly instructed the young lady to meet at a certain place in connection with the church keys, and because he was an elder of the church, the young lady obeyed the instruction. Upon meeting, Makamu offered to give her a ride home and told her that he loves her. The next day, the bishop called and asked her when she will have sexual intercourse with him and she replied saying the next day. She was advised to record the next conversation she had with Israel, which is the clip that has now gone viral.
Since the news of the investigation and sexual assault charge came to light, the bishop has now told his side of the story to the audience on the latest episode of Amabishop, hosted by Nimrod Nkosi. The host claims that in the conversation he was still talking about the keys but the part that has gone viral suggests a different context.
“If you could hear the whole conversation you would hear that i was speaking about the key. All of a sudden i became to playful that when i asked her if she’ll give me and she replied and said Sunday” Makamu said.
Makamu refuted all claims and about any sexual advances made and did so again on last night’s episode where he said he was merely asking for church keys. According to Israel, the reason why he asked the girl if she was alone was because it would not look good for a church elder to walk into a school girls room alone at night.
On how the clip went viral, the father says he does not know how it got leaked but admitted that he sent it to a popular radio station so they could investigate. The father of the alleged victim also claims that Makamu offered them R1 million hush money to make the problem go away. According to Makamu that is impossible because at the time, he hadn’t seen that amount of money in his lifetime making it impossible for him to offer something he doesn’t have.
The streets of twitter have been expressing their outrage about Makamu and the panel of pastors who were present who were present for presenting a united front and apologizing instead of calling out Makamu for his poor indiscretions.
