The One Thing The Late Mary Twala Said No To Beyonce About. Veteran actress Mary Twala had an acting career spanning over 60 years and in her final moments, she gave the performance of a life time on Beyonce’s visual album Black Is King alongside other well known Mzansi entertainers.
The late Mary Twala featured on Beyoncé’s award nominated visual film Black Is King which was released in 2020. Mama Twala played the role of Rafiki in the project. Somizi is beyond proud of his mothers epic last gig and smiles every time he tells the story.
In his recent 947 interview with Anele And The breakfast Club Somizi shared that his mother was kept the role a secret and he only found out by mistake after she had returned from shooting, when her agent emailed Somizi about Beyonce’s team needing a voice over form her.
At first Somizi thought it was a joke but later confronted his niece who took care of his mother. After learning the truth about Mary’s acting gig, Somizi told his mother about Beyonce’s request to which Twala declined.
“And my mother being my mother, with that voice over thing she refused” he said.
Black Is King featured many of Mzansi’s favourite celebs such as Nandi Madida, Nyaniso Dzedze, Warren Masemola and many more. The visual film has now been nominated at this years NAACP awards (National Association for the Advancement of Coloured People) which serve a purpose of honouring outstanding performances in film.
Black Is King is nominated in the Best Variety Show category which made for series and TV specials.
This after the late actresses latest achievement at the Hong Kong Film Festival where she was awarded a prize for the Best Actress category for her role in the film, ‘This Is Not A Burial, It’s A Resurrection‘.
