Baby Cele Shares How Her Character On Uzalo Positively Impacted Her Life As She Exits The Show. Veteran actress Baby Cele is spreading her wings once again from her longtime character of Gabisile on one of Mzansi’s most watched telenovela’s.
Opening up to TshisaLive, Cele shared how her years on Uzalo have impacted her life in a positive way. According to the actress, her character wasn’t supposed to have lasted that long, but the viewers fell in love with her role.
Speaking to the publication, Cele revealed that her character wasn’t initially supposed to be the antagonist in the show. She further detailed how her Character was supposed to be an innocent and spiritual women but things happened to change.
“You know what’s funny, when we started she wasn’t a villain. She was someone who wanted to make a difference in KwaMashu. She grew up there, disappeared for years and then came back. A good, spiritual, God-fearing woman and along the way, she changed. But I’m no writer so I didn’t complain,” Baby told the publication.
The actress also opened up about how she feels about departing the show, claiming that she is shattered by her exit as this specific character has shed some positive light in her life. Another thing that was very hard to do was to say goodbye to the cast and crew of Uzalo that she now calls family.
“It breaks my heart to be honest with you because I have never played such a character before. Leaving Uzalo is like losing my family. I was telling someone that it’s like having a healthy baby only to be told I have to give it up for adoption. I couldn’t bring myself to watch the last episode,” Baby said.
According to the actress, she didn’t have the strength to watch Gabisile’s final moments on the show before her untimely death.
Baby recalls having to relocate to Durban to shoot Uzalo and having major doubts about making such a big move after just tying the knot however, looking back she is certain that she made the right decision.
“At first, I thought I was going to face challenges. I had just got married then I had to move. I remember I signed the contract without talking to my husband about it. But afterwards, we spoke about. He was a bit angry for a few minutes but then he agreed” she said.
The actresses fans who were sad to see her go will be happy to know that this is not the end of the road for Cele. It has been confirmed that the former Backstage actress has booked another acting gig. Although the details still haven’t been revealed, she will be working on the e.tv production for the next five months.
