South African media personality Somizi Mhlongo has opened up about his previous marriage, the lessons he took from the experience and what he now wants from a future partner.
Somizi appeared on the L-Tido Podcast, where he spoke openly about several aspects of his life, including his childhood, spirituality and his experiences in relationships. He also reflected on his marriage to influencer Mohale Motaung, which lasted for nine months before the pair separated.
When L-Tido asked Somizi how his experience of being married was, the media personality kept his response simple, saying, “It was nice.”
However, Somizi made it clear that he does not intend to revisit the details of his past relationship or give his former partner unnecessary publicity. Speaking about his previous marriage, he said, “My partnership with the other person is the reason why they are known today, so I’m not going to resurrect their name again. I’m not going to talk about anyone whose not doing better than me.”
Despite the end of his marriage, Somizi said the experience taught him an important lesson about choosing a partner. According to the media personality, compatibility goes beyond attraction and romance.
“Marry your type, both financially, emotionally and intellectually,” he said.
Somizi also revealed that marriage is not completely off the table for him. He said he would definitely consider getting married again in the future, but his next relationship would need to align with the lifestyle and standards he has established for himself.
Discussing his ideal partner, Somizi said, “My type is extremely financially stable. I want somebody whose financially fluid.”
He also explained that his partner would need to understand his expectations when it comes to travelling. Somizi said, “I’ve never flown economy and business class in my adult life, from the age of 25. I’ve never flown business class overseas. Even when I was married, we always flew first class. But now, I’m never flying anyone first class. If they can’t afford to buy themselves first class, then they can’t be with me.”
Somizi further stressed that he does not want to compromise the lifestyle he has worked hard to build.
“I don’t want someone who’s going to make me compromise, now I must go to business class because this person can’t afford. Anything in life, I must not compromise my lifestyle.”
Beyond financial stability, Somizi said he also wants someone with a warm personality. Describing another quality he looks for in a partner, he simply said, “He must be charming.”
His candid conversation on the L-Tido Podcast gave fans a glimpse into how his past relationship has shaped his expectations for love, compatibility and marriage in the future.
