Jo-Anne Reyneke Joins Generations: The Legacy as Refilwe

South African actress Jo-Anne Reyneke is making her much-anticipated return to Generations: The Legacy, reprising her role as the smart and ambitious Refilwe Zungu.

Jo-Anne is set to return to the SABC1 soapie on Friday, 28 August 2026, bringing a very different Refilwe back to the screen.

Refilwe is the daughter of the late struggle stalwart Daniel Zungu and the stepdaughter of politician Walter Nkaba, played by Nimrod Nkosi. She first joined the show in 2020 before leaving for New York.

Now, she is back with a brand-new, independent and vengeful storyline.

Her biological father, Daniel Zungu, was a struggle stalwart who died 10 years ago, leaving her a fortune. But Refilwe’s complicated past goes beyond money. Her story follows that of a father who has over the years used his daughter for his own political agendas.

Refilwe is comfortable around alpha males – she grew up around them. So, when Nkaba introduces her to one of his powerful associates, she knows exactly how to hold her own – leaving him weak at the knees.

Speaking to Daily Sun about her new role, Jo-Anne said, “She’s the daughter of Minister Naba (Nimrod Nkosi). Since she came of age, she has been attending meetings with her father and has been used as a pawn to get deals signed and impress the men. That’s who we saw the first time we met Refilwe.

“Three years later, when she comes back, she’s independent. There’s a rage in her that makes her want to take revenge so that other women don’t have to experience what she experienced,” she said.
