After Two Years DJ Cleo Leaves Radio 2000

Award-winning producer, artist, businessman, DJ and hitmaker Tlou Cleopas Monyepao, popularly known as DJ Cleo, has announced his departure from Radio 2000 after more than two years at the station.

DJ Cleo joined Radio 2000 on 5 April 2024, where he hosted the dance show “The Eskhaleni Party” every Friday from 10pm to midnight.

The hitmaker took to social media to announce his departure, reflecting on his time at the station and the growth of the show during his 28-month journey.

“My journey started on the 5th April 2024, I am incredibly proud of the growth we achieved Throughout my tenure, I have delivered a one-of-a-kind programme that went far beyond my expected KPIs. I stepped in for absent colleagues with absolute professionalism and maintained an unblemished disciplinary record with management. I have never been absent I am eternally grateful to Mr Tony Soglo and management for identifying me as the ideal candidate to host this show, which I named The Eskhaleni Party with DJ Cleo. Seeing the show nominated for the Telkom Radio Awards after just its first year on the airwaves remains a massive highlight for me.”

DJ Cleo also thanked his colleagues and listeners for being part of his journey at Radio 2000.

“To my colleagues, those who supported me closely and the not-so-nice ones, thank you for walking this journey with me.

“Even though the listeners will miss the mixes and the unique Eskhaleni flavour, I will miss them the most. This is certainly not the end of the brand.”

The DJ then opened up about his decision to leave the station and what he plans to focus on moving forward.

“Making this decision wasn’t difficult at all. I am choosing to refocus my energy on my music career, my family, my academic journey and most importantly my peace and mental health.

“Moving forward, I will dedicate my time to my degree, live gigs, and artist development, including my current protege uMaifrend Womzulu, Pulinshki, and others. I am not leaving to join a competing station; any future career moves will be given slow and deliberate consideration.”

DJ Cleo also made it clear that he continues to hold Radio 2000 and the SABC brand in high regard.

“I hold the SABC brand and Radio 2000 in high regard, and they will continue to be accorded the respect they deserve. I had an amazing 28 months on the job and will not taint it by saying anything else beyond this point. Or on any platform.”
