South African DJ and television personality Lamiez Holworthy has revealed that she recently faced a terrifying health emergency that left her fighting for her life in hospital.
Taking to social media, Holworthy thanked her supporters for their prayers and opened up about the severity of what she had experienced over the past few days.
“The past few days have been scary and painful beyond words but God showed up for me in ways that I cannot fathom nor explain,” she wrote.
“I nearly died. I nearly lost my life and probably would’ve if I wasn’t rushed to the hospital on Sunday.”
The health scare came while Holworthy was in the middle of a demanding work schedule, with several performances still ahead of her.
She revealed that she was only seven minutes away from her next venue and still had six gigs remaining when the situation took a serious turn.
The experience forced the DJ to reflect on the toll of constantly pushing herself and the importance of recognising when her body needs rest.
“The biggest lesson that I learnt? To listen to my body and that there is no honour in working yourself to death. What good would all that hard work be if I were dead?” she said.
Holworthy also acknowledged that, despite her public profile and demanding career, she remains human and cannot continue to operate as though she is “a robot.”
Her family has now become a major part of her decision to prioritise her health.
“My husband, parents, siblings, my children and all my loved ones deserve a happier and healthier version of me,” she wrote.
Holworthy confirmed that she is now back home after overcoming what she described as the worst of the ordeal and will be taking time away from work to recover.
“I’ll be taking time off to heal and reconnect,” she said.
The DJ also addressed online criticism surrounding a photograph of herself that had been used to body-shame her while she was recovering in hospital.
Holworthy explained that the outfit in the photograph was deliberately chosen as part of a message about body positivity. She had previously told her audience in Bloemfontein that she wore the dress to show that she is a normal woman with cellulite and stretch marks.
“I gained weight and wasn’t going to try and hide it,” she said, adding that she found it particularly disturbing that another woman would use the image to belittle her.
Despite the criticism, Holworthy said she had no intention of giving further attention to the person involved, choosing instead to focus on her recovery.
Her post also revealed just how serious her medical emergency had been. Holworthy said she had lost a significant amount of blood and that her doctor had considered a blood transfusion.
“Lost so much blood that my Dr was considering a blood transfusion is beyond me,” she wrote.
For Holworthy, surviving the ordeal has ultimately strengthened her faith.
“I’ll tell you this, Modimo o teng and ga nyake ka bana ba gae,” she said, expressing her belief that God is present and protects His children.
As she steps away from the spotlight to heal, Holworthy has asked for continued prayers while making it clear that her health and family are now her priority.
Her message serves as a powerful reminder that behind the public persona, performers are human too — and sometimes the most important decision is knowing when to stop, rest and listen to the body.
