Award-winning actress Gail Mabalane has shared an emotional message as she reflected on the sudden end of the SABC township drama Pimville, saying the series deserved a longer run.

Taking to Instagram, Gail revealed that the show was on her mind as she thought about the many people whose lives were affected by its unexpected cancellation. While remembering the production, she highlighted the impact it had not only on viewers but also on the cast and crew who suddenly found themselves without work.

“I woke up today thinking of #Pimville. The cast, the crew … the countless individuals still navigating life after the abrupt end to a stream of income. Imagine, one day you’re at working making TV, and the next, you see this post on social media.

This beautiful story deserved to be told … it should still be on air. Our beloved viewers!!! ©Honestly, as creatives and as an industry, we deserve better than this,” she wrote.

In May 2026, the SABC officially announced that Pimville had been discontinued due to unresolved contractual and operational matters involving the production company.

On 25 May 2026, the broadcaster confirmed that the drama would no longer continue in its existing timeslot. Instead, repeat episodes of Season 2 of Amalanga Awafani would take over the 21:00 slot previously occupied by Pimville.

In an official statement, the SABC explained the reason for the decision, saying: “Following a thorough review process and careful consideration, the SABC regrets to announce that Pimville will be discontinued from tonight, due to unresolved contractual obligations and breaches identified and communicated formally to Bakwena Productions.”

The broadcaster also recognised the dedication of everyone who contributed to the show’s success.

“This outcome is deeply regrettable, particularly considering the dedication and hard work demonstrated by the cast, crew, as well as the unwavering support received from audiences, partners, and all stakeholders who contributed to the programme’s success,” the SABC added.

Pimville premiered on SABC 2 on Monday, 9 February 2026 and quickly introduced viewers to a compelling township story brought to life by a talented cast. Gail Mabalane starred as Pheello Mohapi alongside Matli Mohapeloa as Mmusi Mohapi, Thapelo Mokoena as Kenneth Tumagole, Jesse Suntele as Mojalefa “MJ” Kobo, and Keke Mphuthi as Naledi Tumagole.

Although the show has come to an end, Gail’s heartfelt message has reminded fans of the lasting impact Pimville had on its viewers and the many creatives who helped bring the story to television. Her words also shine a light on the uncertainty that many people in the entertainment industry face when productions come to an unexpected end.
