Media personality, reality TV star, and DJ Eva Modika is set to make her official entry into the music industry with the release of her debut single, SEBENZA dropping on 24 April 2026.
After nearly two years of careful crafting and sonic exploration, SEBENZA represents a bold and intentional introduction to Eva’s musical journey. Featuring Mawhoo, Peekay Nzee, David Moh, and Roots Afriq, the track is rooted in Afrohouse with a fusion of Three-Step, creating a sound that is both authentically South African and globally resonant. This seamless blend reflects Eva’s vision that carries local identity while appealing to international audiences.
At its heart, SEBENZA is an empowering anthem – particularly for women. It calls on women to take control of their lives, pursue financial independence, and stand firmly in their purpose. With an unapologetic message and infectious energy, the song underscores a powerful reality: no one is coming to save you, success must be claimed through action, resilience, and self-belief.
“This song is about standing up and standing on business,” says Eva Modika. “It’s about women recognizing their worth, putting in the work, and securing the bag. The time is now.”
Known for her dynamic presence and entrepreneurial drive, Eva Modika continues to evolve as a multifaceted creative. With SEBENZA, she not only expands her brand into music but also delivers a message that is both motivating and culturally relevant.
“Music has always been a quiet but constant part of my life, even when people only knew me from what they saw on screen. I didn’t rush my journey as a DJ because I wanted to truly understand and respect the craft, and I’m approaching my music the same way.“
The single will be available on all major streaming platforms from 24 April 2026
What inspired your debut single “Sebenza”?
“Sebenza” literally means “work” in isiZulu, and that’s the energy. I was tired of seeing women wait for permission to win. I’ve been in rooms where we’re told to dim our light or depend on someone else’ timeline. This track is me saying: no more. If you want the bag, the respect, the future, you have to move for it. I spent two years building this record because I wanted my first statement to mean something. Not just vibes
How would you describe the sound of the track? I
t’s Afrohouse at its core, but we laced it with Three-Step so it hits differently on the dance floor. You’ll hear the drums and soul that make it proudly South African, but the structure and bounce are built for global playlists. The result is warm and aggressive in the best way.
What message do you want women to take from “Sebenza”?
Stop waiting to be rescued. Your rent, your dreams, your legacy, that’s on you. “Sebenza” is a reminder that self-belief without action is just a wish. I want every woman who hears it to feel that switch flip: from hoping to doing. Secure your future, move with purpose, and don’t apologize for wanting more.
What was it like working with Mawhoo and the rest of the collaborators?
Electric! Mawhoo is a powerhouse, her voice carries so much conviction. Peekay Nzee, David Moh, and Roots Afriq understood the assignment from day one: make it hit spiritually and on the dancefloor.
What does music mean to you personally?
Music’s been my private therapy long before people knew me on TV. It’s where I process, where I plot, where I pray. DJing taught me how to read energy and move a crowd, but creating my own music is different. It’s legacy. It’s me putting my voice on wax and saying “I was here, and this is what I stood for.”
How does this moment feel for you as an artist?
Like alignment. I didn’t rush. I learned the craft as a DJ first because I respect the culture. So dropping “Sebenza” now, on 24 April 2026, feels earned, not forced. I’m nervous, excited, but mostly ready. This is me stepping fully into my power, no filter.
How does your DJ experience influence your music?
DJing taught me discipline. You learn real quick that a crowd doesn’t lie. If the groove isn’t there, they’ll tell you with their feet. So when we produced “Sebenza,” I was thinking like a DJ: Where’s the drop? Where do people scream? Where do they feel seen? It made the record sharper. I don’t make music to sit on a hard drive. I make it to move bodies and shift mindsets.
What does “standing on business” mean to you personally?
It means boundaries, consistency, and self-respect. It’s showing up for yourself when no one’s clapping yet. It’s saying no to what doesn’t serve you and yes to the grind, even when it’s not cute. “Standing on business” is knowing your worth and putting the work in to match it. No excuses, no delays. The time is now.
