South African superstar Tyla has once again put Africa on the global stage after winning a Grammy Award at the 2026 Grammy Awards. The 24-year-old singer walked away with the award for Best African Music Performance for her hit single Push 2 Start at the ceremony held on Sunday, 1 February 2026.

The win marks another major milestone in Tyla’s fast-growing international career and further cements her place as one of Africa’s most exciting musical exports. Her success at the Grammys also comes at an exciting time, as the singer has confirmed that she is preparing to release a brand-new album later this year.

According to Rolling Stone, along with picking up her second Grammy, Tyla revealed that her long-awaited second album is officially on the way. The album is titled A-Pop and will follow her 2024 self-titled debut, which introduced her sound to a global audience and helped launch her into international stardom.

Teasing the upcoming project, Tyla reflected on how different this new chapter feels compared to her first album. She explained, “I feel like the first album, it was very hectic, it was a rush. It was like, all of a sudden, overnight craziness. So now that I’m settled in, I feel like I know more about my direction and what I want to do, what I want to say.”

Tyla shared that she began working on the follow-up album last year, but the creative process was not immediately clear to her. At first, she admitted that she “did not know what [she] wanted it to sound like.” However, she trusted that the journey itself would guide the music. “I just knew that as I lived through the making of the album, it was going to fall into place, which it did. I feel like I just did something really fresh and so Tyla,” she said.

A key part of shaping A-Pop was giving herself the freedom to experiment and explore. Tyla said allowing herself to “dive into things and try whatever” helped her grow creatively. While she still describes herself as a “perfectionist,” she added, “Now that I’m doing it more often, I’m more open to whatever comes and letting it be that. Because whatever happens, is meant to happen at that time.”

The process of creating A-Pop has also changed how Tyla sees herself as an artist. She revealed that making the album has made her “feel like a real artist, which is so special.” Reflecting on the industry, she said, “When you’re in the rush of everything … you just only feel the glamour of it all. Which is amazing, but making something is so fun, and seeing it through, from beginning to end … I love building the world around things and just making it fun.”
