South African rapper, television personality and entrepreneur Nadia Nakai has opened up about her thoughts on the benefits and fears of using AI apps for small businesses like hers and others. Known for her bold style and business mindset, Nadia has been using technology to help grow her beauty brand while also being honest about the challenges that come with it.
Nadia Nakai is the founder of her makeup brand Naked Without, which she officially launched in December 2023. Her beauty brand business offers amazing makeup products, from foundation and concealer to setting powder and lip gloss.
Recently, Nadia launched new blush sticks and lipsticks in collaboration with performer and DJ Nobantu Vilakazi. For the photoshoot launch, the two were dressed in pink, with a small pink dragon surrounding them in the background. The creative visuals caught a lot of attention online and showed how Nadia Nakai uses AI to upgrade her pictures for her makeup business while still keeping a strong creative vision.
Speaking about her thoughts on AI, Nadia shared an honest and balanced view. She said, “I’ve been seeing a lot of Tik Toks and social media posts about A.I and how scary A.I can be for a lot of creators. Personally, I use A.I a lot in my business, but the one thing I don’t really like doing is generating A.I from scratch.” She explained that she prefers working with real people first before using technology to enhance the final product.
Nadia added, “I want to shoot a photoshoot and then use A.I to amplify those images that was shot by an individual, a person that has creativity and skill behind it, and then use A.I to amplify those images and it’s absolutely amazing.” She believes AI has helped many small business owners who cannot afford expensive, high-level campaign shoots.
She continued, “I think it’s helped a lot of small business owners that can’t afford all of these amazing photo shoots campaign level images in order to push their products.” However, she made it clear that she does not support AI replacing human creativity. “But I’m not an advocate for A.I that’s replacing creativity of an individual.”
Nadia admitted that finding balance is not easy. “So I’m always kind of torn between the two of how much do I use A.I for my business and my marketing and how much do I use real people?” She ended by saying, “Because I don’t want to kill the industry, but A.I is just amplifying things… It’s going to be tricky for the industry, I don’t want to lie.”
Through her words, Nadia Nakai shows that while AI can be powerful and helpful, creativity and human talent should always come first.
