Radio host, television producer, actress and musician Relebogile Mabotja has shared a frightening experience she recently went through while visiting a nail salon. The media personality took to social media to describe what happened and to speak up for salon workers who were left shaken by the incident.
In her first post, Relebogile explained that a man entered the Sorbet salon while she was the only customer inside and immediately became aggressive towards the staff. She wrote, “This man came in threatening the staff at the Sorbet while I was the only customer inside. The staff tried to address his issue as he said he wants his money back because his wife’s nails look like shit but couldn’t even say who she was. All he did was verbally abuse them.who is he?”
Relebogile later shared a video explaining the situation in more detail. She said, “This is what happened. I’m busy getting my nails done in the store and I’m on the phone. So I’m hearing some commotion in the front. I was supposed to have an appointment in the morning but ended up having it in the afternoon. I’m hearing commotion and I ask the person to hold. Then I hear somebody swearing “you fking this” “you fking that”.”
She went on to explain that the man was upset about his wife’s nails. According to Relebogile, the woman had visited the salon earlier in the day. She said, “The back story is, the wife came in early in the morning around 10:00 to 11:00 o clock. Much later he comes and he’s demanding the money back saying that they did the nails terribly and he wants the money.”
As the man continued to insult the staff, Relebogile tried to stand up for them. However, the situation quickly escalated, and the man redirected his anger towards her. In another video, she explained that he tried to stop her from recording. “He took my phone; luckily, the security guard managed to get it back for me. He was calling me names and insulting me,” she said.
Relebogile later shared a strong message on X (formerly Twitter), condemning the behaviour she witnessed. She wrote, “I do not care how upset you are about bad service but there is absolutely no reason to speak to people that way. I see all the men telling me to mind my business and comments saying when he beats you now we must feel sorry for you.
Who would stand up for the women being threatened? Clearly none of you! May you never find yourselves in a position like that. Ever! Had the staff been white or men, he would never have spoken to them like that. And you do that to a store full of women who are workers? No ways! I will not sit back and allow that. Ever!
Some of you see nothing wrong because that behaviour is normal to you! It is not in my world. No violence of any kind will ever be normal to me.”
