South African singer, podcaster, and host Nandi Madida is celebrating a very special milestone for her son, Shaka. The talented young artist turned nine and marked the occasion with his very first solo art exhibition at the prestigious Thebe Magugu.
Sharing the proud moment on social media, Nandi posted a video of her son’s artwork displayed at Magugu House. “My dear son Shaka celebrated his 9th birthday with his very first solo exhibition, a goal he has quietly and passionately carried for a long time. On that same night, he made his first art sale! A brave beginning. A dream honoured. A milestone earned at only 9 years old,” she wrote.
Nandi went on to express her gratitude to Thebe Magugu for supporting her son’s creative journey. “Thank you Uncle @thebemagugu for offering him such an uplifting creative home, for believing in his work, and for sharing your beautiful space with so much generosity and support. Shaka and the Madida family are forever grateful. Happy 9th birthday, sweet boy. You stepped into this moment with confidence, courage and creativity leading the way. We are endlessly proud of you.”
In an interview with TRUELOVE, Nandi shared a lighthearted insight into her son’s talent. “To be very honest, there’s the power of genetics,” she laughs. “I think anyone who’s followed Shaka’s journey—there was one, I remember, drawing in particular that trended. I think he was four years old and he’s drawing Sonic freehand.”
Shaka’s artistic path has been nurtured by an impressive support system, including acclaimed South African visual artists like Nelson Makamo, Justice, and Fhatuwani Mukheli, who have all mentored him along the way. Their guidance has helped Shaka refine his craft while giving him the confidence to step into the art world at such a young age.
For Nandi, seeing her son reach this milestone is both emotional and inspiring. At just nine years old, Shaka has not only achieved a personal dream but also set a strong foundation for a bright future in the arts. With talent, dedication, and a supportive family and mentor circle, the young artist is already proving that age is no limit when it comes to creativity and passion.
