Actress, film producer, and children’s book author Salamina Mosese has marked a powerful milestone in her career, celebrating her role as the Programme Director at the Soul City Institute’s 30th Anniversary Gala. The media personality took to Instagram to share heartfelt reflections and a recap of the special night, filled with nostalgia, purpose, and honour.
She opened up about the significance of the moment, sharing, “It’s not often that work, memory, and purpose collide so beautifully. Being the Programme Director at the Soul City Institute’s 30th Anniversary Gala dinner was one of those rare moments.”
Salamina explained that her relationship with Soul City began long before the glamorous gala. “My first TV job at 13 was on Soul Buddyz, so standing on the stage 27 years later, felt like returning to the place where my journey truly began. A reminder of why I fell in love with storytelling and how powerful it can be when it’s used for impact.”
One of the emotional highlights of her evening was honouring a South African icon. She wrote, “One of the highlights was giving flowers to Mme Lillian Dube, @lillian.dube (The original Sister Bettina). My on-screen aunt, my real-life industry granma. She taught me early on that our roles weren’t ‘just TV’ – they were part of something bigger, something that shaped lives.”
Her recap also showcased a fun, light-hearted moment from the gala. “And yes, we were dancing to ‘Sister Bettina’ in that dancing clip!”
Salamina extended heartfelt gratitude to her husband, saying, “And to my husband, @howza_sa, thank you for understanding what this night meant to me and for always cheering me on.” She also acknowledged another industry trailblazer: “@motsomatsu was great seeing you too. You were one of the first black women I saw in the early days, who had a production company. A true legend in my eyes. An inspiration then, and now.”
The star further celebrated the women behind the event’s execution, sharing, “Shout-out to the black woman owned business that put the event on. I am awe of your professionalism. Thank you for the collaboration @lumamuconsulting.”
The Soul City Institute, known as a social justice organisation focused on empowering young women and girls, hosted the gala to commemorate its 30-year legacy of impact and advocacy.
Fans and fellow stars showered Salamina with love following her post. Actress Dineo Langa commented, “This is so special.” Meanwhile, Nobuhle Mimi Mahlasela added, “Well done friend- you always inspire me.”
